Getting the most from your company blog
- Keep your blog interesting by changing it up now and again. Daily updates of the same 5 or 6 paragraphs of text will soon wear thin on your readers.
- Encourage RSS subscription. RSS feeds allow people to read your blog content, without visiting your website. People obviously aren’t available to browse the web all day, every day. If your previous visitors have signed up for RSS, it allows them to receive a notification that you have added new content to your website via their own chosen devices and RSS programs, that they wouldn’t have known otherwise. They may not have been visiting your website again today, but with RSS they can be prompted to read your content and follow links back to your website.
- Weekday posting. I would hope that you post articles every day, and in many industries and companies multiple times a day. However, if your updates aren’t as regular as that, and you are posting a few times a articles are aimed at clients or potential customers, catch them when they’re in work mode, not shutting down from it over the weekend.
- Social media is your friend. There is and has never a better way reach more people for less money than social media. The bigger social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, Instagram) have networks of many millions of people who use these platforms regularly, many daily and some multiple times a day. Utilising these platforms fully does involve time and your approach should be well planned and considered, but the value is incredible. Have a read of my article on
- Ensure your content is SEO friendly. SEO is an ever evolving area, with changes being made to search engine algorithms daily. While “SEO” or “Search Engine Optimisation” is the generic term in the industry, please don’t think too much about ‘keywords’, ‘links’, and other SEO words that used to be so important. These areas still have relevance, but the way search engines handle these items has changed a lot recently, and being keyword or link heavy wont always benefit your website, and in fact can have the reverse effect in modern times. When considering SEO concentrate on your content, ensure that it is relevant, descriptive, honest and helpful. Include keywords that are relevant to your article, but don’t overdo them. Make sure keywords are a natural part of your article content. Ensure that the target of any links are also relevant and supportive of your article.
- Keep it visually appealing. Pages and pages of text will soon become overwhelming for your readers. People wont read for the sake of reading, but people will read once something sparks their interest so include a featured image that’s relevant and descriptive of the article content.
